Key Responsibilities

  • Track Maintenance, Repair, and Installation: Perform railroad track repairs and maintenance, including pulling spikes, cutting, welding, drilling rail, and rebuilding tracks. Maintain a clean right-of-way by removing hazards such as brush, trees, vegetation, litter, and cargo spillage.
  • Track-Bed Maintenance: Compress ballast manually, remove and install ties, replace, cut, and adjust rail, and lift/carry materials with assistance.
  • Equipment Operation: Utilize both powered and non-powered hand tools, including electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools.
  • Examples of Tools Used: Drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, grinders, shovels, picks, and saws.
  • Truck Driving & Maintenance: Operate trucks weighing 26,000+ lbs, ensure proper vehicle and equipment maintenance, and maintain accurate records.
  • Welding Duties: Perform welding, grinding, and cutting of rails while following BNSF welding procedures. Maintain records, time sheets, and order necessary welding materials such as supplies, grinding stones, and safety reports. Safely operate welding trucks and take fire prevention precautions.
  • Work Environment:
    • Conduct daily tasks in a safety-sensitive environment with exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, sleet).
    • Work on uneven surfaces, around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.
    • Engage in daily safety discussions and strictly adhere to safety regulations, policies, and procedures, including wearing required protective equipment and responding to safety concerns or emergencies.

Basic Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old by the anticipated start date.
Eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship now or in the future.
Able to report to the designated work location as required.
Physically capable of working safely in the described conditions, shifts, and travel requirements.
Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking, and understanding).
Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs occasionally.
Valid state-issued driver’s license required.
Must be able to distinguish colors (red, blue, green, yellow, and lunar/clear light).
Able to recognize and respond to verbal and non-verbal signals, alarms, and communication.
Manual dexterity to perform tasks such as grasping, turning, holding, and pulling.
Physically fit to bend, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods, occasionally climbing on/off equipment and using hand tools.
