Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

  • Evaluate, approve, and provide guidance on risks identified in supplier facility audits, food and product safety programs, and product testing results, serving as a key advisor in the Own Brand stage-gate product development process.
  • Monitor product quality data from digital reviews, member feedback, returns, and repeat purchases, collaborating with suppliers to determine root causes of quality issues, implement remediation plans, and track progress.
  • Address urgent food and product safety concerns, recommending actions to safeguard members and uphold brand integrity.
  • Oversee the development of packaging, digital labels, and claims across categories such as baby, home, pets, cosmetics, vitamins, and over-the-counter products, in partnership with external experts.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor in strengthening BJ’s quality management system by enhancing key programs, tools, and resources within the stage-gate model.
  • Maintain robust data and records within the information management system to ensure data accuracy across products, packaging, supplier facilities, digital platforms, and other critical assets.
  • Leverage external resources, including labs, testing agencies, auditing partners, sensory experts, and regulatory consultants, to enhance product quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, assess their impact, and adapt programs to maintain compliance. Work closely with BJ’s Legal team and regulatory agencies such as the FDA, USDA, and state health departments to uphold compliance standards.
  • Optimize and utilize data on member product satisfaction, analyzing digital reviews, customer inquiries, repeat purchases, and returns to track quality performance trends and implement supplier-driven improvements.
  • Lead root cause investigations into major complaints, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish objectives and implement corrective and preventive measures.

Qualifications:

  • 10–15 years of experience in retail, private label brands, or national brand food/product manufacturing with increasing responsibility in Quality Assurance.
  • Strong understanding of FDA regulatory requirements and experience developing compliance strategies.
  • Proven success in establishing and managing quality management systems that ensure exceptional quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence decisions across cross-functional teams and supplier partnerships.
  • Experience working within a stage-gate model at a retailer or manufacturer.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing third-party relationships with labs, auditing firms, and labeling review partners.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
