Key Responsibilities
Network Architecture Engineering & Team Leadership
- Collaborate with colleagues and value-added reseller (VAR) engineering teams to design and implement robust, high-performance networks.
- Provide expert guidance on selecting and integrating technologies to enhance the Institute’s data networking capabilities.
- Lead network-related installations, configurations, and management of enterprise-class networking hardware, including switches, routers, and security appliances.
- Make strategic technical decisions to align network infrastructure with the evolving hardware and software needs of core infrastructure services.
- Contribute to planning and decision-making for electrical and telecommunications requirements in new construction and infrastructure modifications.
- Maintain and expand the Institute’s network infrastructure, including cabling, switches, routers, firewalls, and other essential components.
- Develop engineering solutions for remote data and voice connectivity.
- Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of network hardware and software, ensuring problem resolution, traffic monitoring, capacity planning, and system backup for LAN/WAN environments.
Network Operational Support
- Oversee daily network operations, collaborating with peers and junior staff on support-related tasks.
- Design and implement advanced monitoring solutions for servers, networks, and internet access to ensure operational efficiency and security.
- Analyze system logs to identify trends and detect anomalies.
- Manage preventive security measures, including firewall configurations and network security protocols.
- Act as a key incident responder, providing technical leadership in cybersecurity events, forensic investigations, and threat mitigation.
- Lead efforts to diagnose, isolate, and resolve complex, high-impact network issues requiring advanced technical expertise.
- Establish and maintain network configuration control procedures and documentation while conducting performance benchmarking.
- Perform functional, stress, and interoperability testing for new network technologies.
- Evaluate the impact of emerging industry trends and technological advancements on Institute-wide operations.
- Foster strong relationships with users, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and responsiveness to networking needs.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all network hardware, software, and related assets.
- Manage domain registrations, digital certificates, and software licensing.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively advanced experience in network architecture engineering and administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience as a senior-level network engineer.
- Proficiency with network analysis and troubleshooting tools such as Fluke Network testers, Wireshark, SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor, and similar solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, IP routing protocols (EIGRP, RIP, OSPF, BGP), Cisco IOS, LAN/WAN technologies, wireless networking, and security solutions.
