About the Role: Skilled Mechanic

We are hiring a Skilled  Mechanic to join North America’s leading operator of depot service terminals and intermodal and finished vehicle ramps. This permanent, direct-hire role is based in Indianapolis, IN, and offers competitive pay based on experience, education, and certifications.

Key Requirements for a Skilled Mechanic

Must-Have Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of verifiable mechanic experience in any commercial industry.
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments.
• Flexibility to work extended hours in emergency situations.
• Comfortable working in varying weather conditions.
• Must have own hand tools.
• Valid Driver’s License is required.
• Must pass a drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Willingness to obtain a Forklift Certification.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities of a Skilled Mechanic

As a Skilled Mechanic, your primary responsibilities will include:

Chassis Maintenance & Repairs

• Performing routine and scheduled maintenance on railroad-leased and owned containers and chassis.
• Repairing tires, brakes, lights, landing legs, and framework to meet safety and compliance standards.
• Ensuring repairs align with railroad, IEP, manufacturer, and FMCSA guidelines.
• Documenting all maintenance and repair work accurately, both verbally and in writing.

Welding & Fabrication Work

• Conducting light welding repairs as needed to reinforce chassis structures.
• Utilizing welding skills to enhance safety, stability, and efficiency in depot services.
• Working with various metals and welding techniques to ensure high-quality maintenance work.

Additional Duties

• Assisting with on-site troubleshooting and emergency repairs.
• Performing other assigned tasks to support overall depot operations.
