Senior Medical Coder

J&J IM Research & Development discovers and develops innovative medical solutions to address important unmet medical needs in oncology, immunology, neuroscience, infectious diseases and vaccines, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

Within Integrated Data Analysis and Reporting (IDAR) Data Management, the Data Acquisition & Coding (DAC) business are recruiting for a Senior Medical Coder to join their team. This position is preferred to be located in High Wycombe office, UK (hybrid). However applicants in other EU countries (excluding Switzerland, Netherlands and Belgium) may also be considered.Principal Responsibilities:

  • Lead medical coding activities for lower-to-moderate size therapeutic areas, ensuring compliance with Regulatory Authority and Industry standards for coding practices and processes.
  • Drive and enforce adherence to established coding governance principles and activities.
  • Ensure consistent, accurate, and reproducible coding of clinical trial data, meeting project timelines and quality standards.
  • Share expertise on coding processes and encoding systems with cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  • Address and resolve cross-functional and cross-sector coding inquiries and issues, ensuring smooth data flow.
  • Lead or actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, driving innovation and enhancing data acquisition and coding capabilities.
  • Shape the organisation’s coding approach, improving reusability, efficiency, and consistency of tools and processes across therapeutic areas and studies.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of global thesaurus, code lists, and dictionary encoding systems and processes.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to work independently and take initiative.
  • Qualifications:

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    • We seek a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (BS, BA) or equivalent professional experience, ideally in Clinical Data Management, Health, or Computer Sciences. Advanced degrees (Master’s, PhD) are preferred.
    • Approximately 4 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical, CRO, Biotech, or related industry.
    • Strong knowledge of industry-standard coding thesauri (MedDRA, WHO Drug) and experience contributing to the maintenance of dictionary encoding products and systems.
    • Experience working in a multi-functional environment with the ability to adapt to different workflows.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • In-depth understanding of the drug development process and GCP/ICH guidelines.
    • Innovative approach to designing and executing medical coding strategies.

    Approx. <10% travel (domestic or international) may be required.
