PURPOSE:

Reporting to and supporting the Director of Finance in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance Department including financial modeling for business valuation, research and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, month-end close duties, financial statement analysis, as well as process improvement and other special projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop financial models in Excel. Build multiple valuation processes in the model including income statement, fair market value of assets, NPV/cash flow to facilitate effective comparison and analysis.
  • Utilize advanced Excel formulas/features and other available data analytical tools and visualization programs to organize and present models.
  • Present models and key findings to finance leadership to aid in strategic decisions.
  • Create and maintain detailed financial models and reports to support budgeting and forecasting activities as well as for long-range planning. Prepare summaries and forecasts for future business growth and general economic outlook.
  • Support the Director of Finance in managing the budgeting and forecasting process with branch managers. Improve efficiency of the process by implementing changes to the existing Workday Adaptive models and reports.
  • Develop dashboards and other reports in Workday Adaptive Planning or in Excel to present financial data and operational statistics on a timely basis to facilitate decision making.
  • Support monthly financial statement completion and analysis. Review monthly operating reports for accuracy, completeness, and major variances between actual and budget results.
  • Support the preparation of year-end financial statements, in conjunction with external accounting firm following proper accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Recommend technology and process improvements to Accounting Manager, Director of Finance, and CFO.
  • Play a key role in evaluating new tools available in the market and their subsequent implementation, roll-out and post go-live support to users. Provide support in managing change and implementation of process improvement tasks.
  • All other duties including month-end close tasks and/or projects as assigned by the Director of Finance and CFO.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Canadian CPA designation.
  • 6 to 7 years of finance experience in the areas of financial modelling, budgeting & forecasting, accounting, and management/financial reporting.
  • Strong mathematical skills, ability to analyse figures, and knowledge of accounting principles are essential attributes for this position.
  • Advanced Excel skills required. Knowledge of any budgeting and forecasting tool e.g. Workday Adaptive Planning (preferable), Vena Solutions, Hyperion, Cognos, etc.
  • Strong day-to-day execution skills with attention to detail. Flexible to adapt as needed to evolving finance priorities in a high growth business environment.
  • Willingness to learn and succeed in the absence of clear or defined process.
  • The role will suit a well-organized, self-starter who demonstrates strong time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work alone or in team setting with minimal supervision.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are a requirement
