It’s Work That Matters.

Overview

The Float Teams at CHLA offer nursing support to nearly every unit in the hospital, multiple med surg units, ICU’s (PICU, CTICU, NICCU), and the ED. Generally, the teams are divided into a med/surg team and an ICU team, with the opportunity to cross train to areas of interest as your experience on the team grows. Nurses on these teams take a patient assignment on a different unit each shift based on the needs of the hospital. It is the perfect platform to experience all that CHLA nursing has to offer!

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Registered Nurse on the float team, conducts patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, implements and evaluates care according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs, collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. The employee will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 2+ year experience as a pediatric RN required. Broad knowledge of patient care principles and equipment; CHLA patient care policies and procedures. Candidates must be flexible and adaptable with the ability to assess effectiveness of patient care; maintain a calm demeanor and assist in crises and emergencies; prioritize tasks for complex patient care; communicate tactfully, professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing.

Education/Licensure/Certification: ADN with BSN in progress within 2 years of employment, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Current CA RN license and American Heart Association BLS and PALS certification required.
