Registered Nurse – Essential Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse at Glenwood Behavioral Health Hospital, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients facing mental and behavioral health challenges. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing patients’ physical and behavioral health needs to develop and coordinate individualized care plans.
  • Implementing nursing care plans and maintaining accurate medical records while educating patients and their families on various health conditions.
  • Providing nursing services in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act regulations, as well as facility and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that physicians’ verbal orders are properly documented and transcribed in compliance with policy and procedure.
  • Continuously monitoring patients’ conditions, gathering pertinent information, and documenting findings appropriately.
  • Notifying physicians of significant status changes, including medical emergencies, detox difficulties, medication responses, and other critical concerns.
  • Completing initial nursing treatment plans upon patient admission, ensuring they are tailored to each individual’s assessed needs.
  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of universal precautions while delivering direct patient care.
  • Administering medications accurately as prescribed and maintaining appropriate documentation of controlled substance administration.
  • Managing admission and discharge processes efficiently and with attention to detail.
  • Building therapeutic rapport with patients by maintaining professional boundaries, respecting personal space, and providing direct, focused attention.
  • Overseeing or coordinating unit activities as needed to support smooth operations.
  • Communicating professionally and compassionately with patients, families, colleagues, and other members of the treatment team.

Qualifications & Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
  • Possession of a valid and current Registered Nurse (RN) license, or eligibility to practice in the state of employment.
  • A minimum of one year of nursing experience (psychiatric, mental health, behavioral health, or substance abuse experience is preferred).
  • Certification in CPR, de-escalation techniques, and restraint procedures (training provided upon hire).
  • First aid certification may be required, depending on state or facility regulations.
