The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees) is the nation’s premier conservation and preservation organization. The Trustees’ properties are open to all, and we thrive by involving as many people as possible in all that we do. Founded in 1891 by a group of visionary volunteers, we preserve, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts. We aim to protect special places for future generations to enjoy in perpetuity. We have helped protect more than 50,000 acres, including 27,000+ acres on more than 120 reservations that are open to the public. We are a non-profit conservation organization funded and supported entirely by our visitors, supporters, volunteers, and our 100,000 Member households.
Salary: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour
The Role
The Fruitlands Public Programs Coordinator is a part-time (30 hours) position based at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA. The position is responsible for the public programming at Fruitlands, and reports to the MetroWest Senior Regional Engagement Manager. The role manages group reservations, execution of public programing in the annual engagement plan, and development/execution of new public programs. The role schedules and manages the volunteers and event assistants supporting public programs.
The position encompasses a wide range of work, and no two days are the same. Programs include indoor and outdoor concerts, museum tours, children’s activities, storytelling events, nature education programs, art classes and other programs designed to connect visitors with the museum and natural surroundings. Tasks may range from registration, event set-up and decoration, event marketing and promotion including social media, greeting/checking-in participants, managing vendors, sharing information about The Trustees and more. The ideal candidate is highly organized, enthusiastic, dynamic, and skilled at connecting with diverse audiences. The role requires superior communication skills, the ability to manage multiple projects at once and a proven track record in social media marketing.
Essential Functions
- Create, manage and execute existing and new public programs and events to connect visitors with Fruitlands history, landscape, exhibits and natural surroundings, including the intersection of art and nature.
- Develop and write compelling program descriptions for inclusion on the Trustees website.
- Manage income and expenses to increase net revenue.
- Supervise and staff group reservations for non-field-trip visits to the museum and grounds.
- Work with external partners and vendors to create, organize and execute events and programs.
- Partner with food/beverage and retail functions to enhance events and cross promote when possible.
- Schedule, write, post and manage social media (events, posts, ads) to promote programs.
- Schedule and supervise interpretive staff and event assistants for tours and public program support.
- Utilize registration software, POS software for program registration, concession sales, membership sales.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- 3 – 5 years of relevant experience
- 3 – 5 years of supervisory experience
- Bachelor’s degree in event management, marketing, museum studies, and/or history preferred
- Strong analytic and organizational skills and the ability to engage diverse constituents.
- Demonstrated experience in program leadership, collaboration with internal and external sources/vendors/partners
- Tech savvy, including use of full Microsoft office suite, Excel, Canva, registration and POS software
- Excellent customer service skills
- Highly organized and able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Available to work weekends, some holidays and occasional evenings
