Job Description
Under general direction, with significant autonomy for independent decision-making, the psychologist in this role performs advanced professional and/or supervisory work. In addition to handling complex cases, responsibilities include:
- Supervising unlicensed psychologists and subordinate staff in diagnosis, therapy, and research while ensuring seamless coordination with other professionals.
- Developing and evaluating habilitation plans to support individuals with addictions, cognitive impairments, and neuropsychological disorders.
- Administering therapy for complex and atypical cases, including individual, group, and family counseling or therapy.
- Organizing and leading training programs, conducting case conferences, and facilitating seminars for professional development.
- Providing instruction to psychologists and trainees on diagnostic, therapeutic, and research methodologies.
- Conducting in-service training programs, including designing curricula, staffing conferences, and evaluating training effectiveness.
- Engaging in clinical professional activities as required.
- Serving on a 24-hour trauma response team, offering crisis counseling and evaluations within the New York metropolitan area.
- Collaborating with the Family Court System to conduct assessments related to parental rights termination, custody disputes, neglect, and abuse cases.
- Performing forensic evaluations for criminal courts, including assessments of fitness to proceed and pre-sentencing evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications
For Appointment at Level II:
- A valid license and current registration to practice as a psychologist, issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
- OR Proof of passing the licensing exam and documented submission of a completed license application with all supporting materials to NYSED, ensuring licensure and registration within six (6) months.
