Job Duties
50% – Direct Services
- Provide brief counseling and psychotherapy to undergraduate and graduate students (individuals and couples) presenting a wide range of psychological concerns, with a specialized focus on African, Black, and Caribbean (ABC) identified students.
- Conduct triage and intake assessments.
- Perform crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization services.
- Offer case management and referral support.
- Facilitate group therapy, psychoeducational sessions, and drop-in groups.
- Collaborate with CAPS, SHS providers, campus partners, off-campus mental health professionals, and community resources to support student mental health.
- Assess the need for additional professional interventions and provide referrals as necessary.
- Offer consultation to faculty, staff, administrators, and campus partners regarding students’ psychological well-being.
- Supervise and train doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows, as needed.
- Provide backup consultation for the After-Hours Crisis Services.
35% – Indirect Services
- Partner with faculty, staff, and campus organizations to develop psychoeducational outreach programs and training to enhance student mental health, with a focus on ABC-identified students.
- Participate in CAPS committees and workgroups to maintain and improve service quality.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical services.
- Promote a safe and healthy workplace and effectively respond to workplace injuries.
15% – Outreach Services
- Develop and implement multiculturally responsive outreach programs and psychoeducational workshops, particularly for ABC-identified students.
- Serve as a liaison and consultant to campus organizations supporting the ABC community.
Required Qualifications
- Valid California psychology license in good standing OR valid out-of-state psychology license (must obtain California licensure within 180 days of either submitting the application or establishing California residency).
- Proven experience providing multiculturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health services, with a focus on African, Black, and/or Caribbean communities.
- Experience in brief therapy models for individuals and couples.
- Strong clinical and crisis management skills, including experience working with high-acuity students and complex mental health needs.
- Experience leading psychotherapy and psychoeducational groups.
- Ability to design and implement multiculturally responsive outreach and psychoeducational programs for ABC communities.
- Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in psychological services.
- Expertise in late adolescent development and the unique challenges faced by ABC-identified students.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and collaborate with diverse individuals.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records and scheduling software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing counseling in a college or university setting.
- California psychology licensure (preferred over out-of-state licensure).
