SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
Reporting to our Accounting Manager, the Property Accountant oversees a portfolio of commercial properties. The Property Accountant plays an integral role in annual budgeting and forecasting and will be responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting and accounting functions.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Technical Skills
- Prepare full cycle month-end, quarter-end, and year-end property accounting responsibilities.
- Maintain and update monthly and annual general ledger account reconciliation working papers and follow-up to ensure items are cleared according to guidelines, procedures, policies, and deadlines.
- Accurately post property accounting journal entries and generate system-based accounting calculations.
- Prepare and maintain operating cost recovery calculation files.
- Act as a resource to the Property Management Team by responding to inquiries as required.
- Assist with auditor requirements when required.
- Ensure standardized accounting processes are executed effectively and efficiently across the portfolios.
- Adapt to and utilize Yardi to generate reports.
- Assist in preparation of monthly and quarterly reports and variance analysis.
- Compile and prepare annual property budgets and forecasts, including budget reporting, for all assigned buildings.
- Review and comfortably understand leases.
- Assist and support with special projects as required.
- Champion Royop’s organizational culture, employee policies and occupational health and safety initiatives.
- Other duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of progressive commercial property accounting experience.
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in accounting. Accounting designation or pursuit of designation an asset.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel (a must).
- Previous experience in Yardi software program (an asset).
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- A true passion for accounting, a desire to continue to learn and grow your skillset.
- Knowledge of retail properties is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational skills – able to multi-task and manage competing priorities and tight deadlines with quality and accuracy first.

JOB LOCATION AND CONDITIONS:
- Working out of our Calgary head office in the beltline, during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
- Flexible hours are available depending on workload and deliverables.
- Some out of town or offsite travel may be required from time to time.
- This job requires the individual hired to maintain the ability to work from a remote location during pandemic related situations by having access to a proper working computer and a secure and strong internet connection. Royop will provide the means to log onto our work systems.
