About Kamehameha Schools
Kamehameha Schools (KS) is a private charitable trust established through the will of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the great-granddaughter and last direct descendant of King Kamehameha I. Guided by its mission, KS is dedicated to enhancing the capability and well-being of Native Hawaiians through education.
To fulfill this mission, KS operates a comprehensive educational system, serving over 6,900 students across K-12 campuses on O‘ahu, Maui, and Hawai‘i Island, as well as at nearly 30 preschools statewide. Additionally, KS reaches more than 40,000 learners annually through diverse community outreach programs.

Essential Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- Assist with daily classroom instruction, ensuring engaging and developmentally appropriate interactions with students.
- Conduct individual, small-group, and large-group instruction to support student learning.
- Maintain a high-quality learning environment by observing students and documenting assessments.
Student Supervision
- Monitor and manage student behavior independently and under teacher guidance, using effective early childhood behavior management strategies.
- Adhere to Kamehameha Schools’ policies and state licensing requirements for health and safety.
Program Support
- Assist with planning snack menus, conducting home visits with teachers, maintaining attendance records, and managing materials and supplies.
- Create and maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- Prepare and sanitize snack areas, maintain classroom centers, and ensure materials and records are well-organized.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, the teaching team, and families to support student development.
Professional Development
- Participate in mandatory training and professional development opportunities.
- Stay updated on technology-related job requirements to enhance classroom efficiency.
Substitute Teaching
- Assume classroom teaching responsibilities when the regular teacher is absent.
- Develop and implement lesson plans or follow existing lesson plans.
- Conduct student assessments and manage classroom operations.
- Communicate with ʻohana (families) regarding student progress and classroom updates.
- Maintain classroom structure, supervision, and daily routines.
- Attend regional staff training and meetings as required.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
(A combination of education and experience may be considered in place of specific requirements.)
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, OR
- Associate’s Degree or higher with 9 Early Childhood Education credits, OR
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- At least 6 months of relevant work experience.
- Valid Hawai‘i Driver’s License (or ability to obtain one within two months of hire).
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage with both children and adults.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Capability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to obtain Community First Aid & Pediatric CPR certification.
- Ability to acquire Department of Health Food Handler’s Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education (ECE).
- Knowledge and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and pre-kindergarten child development.
- Certified in Community First Aid & Pediatric CPR.
- Possession of a Department of Health Food Handler’s Certification.
Physical & Mental Requirements
- Frequent sitting, including on the floor, performing desk-based computer tasks, and using fine motor skills.
- Frequent standing, walking, writing, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling, and reaching.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly.
Working Conditions
- Requires both indoor and outdoor work at the preschool multiple times per day.
- May involve travel to off-site locations, including neighbor islands for work-related activities.
- Work may take place at various locations within the assigned region.
