Accountabilities
Donor Eligibility (85%)
- Accurately and efficiently determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) as required.
- Assess and address donor reactions at the facility according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Follow appropriate protocols for medical emergencies, including implementing Center Physician’s standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Manage donor deferrals, review test results, and inform donors of any unsuitable test outcomes in compliance with applicable SOPs.
- Initiate and investigate Post Donation Information (PDI) as needed.
- Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs regarding unacceptable findings, complex problem-solving, or guidance on medical or technical issues related to donor safety and eligibility.
- Maintain continued competency in performing job responsibilities, completing periodic assessments with the Center Physician per SOPs.
Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Support (5%)
- Conduct pre-placement evaluations for new hires, including reviewing medical history questionnaires.
- Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as needed.
- Maintain employee medical records in compliance with regulations.
- Participate in the EHS site committee and assist in training employees as required.
- Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation is necessary through occupational health or emergency services, following EHS guidance.
- Provide first aid to employees when needed.
- Serve as the Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community as directed by EHS or Medical Affairs.
Medical History Responsibilities (10%)
- Welcome donors as they enter and exit the donor floor.
- Measure and record donor pulse, blood pressure, and temperature while monitoring the electronic donor questionnaire system.
- Perform finger sticks, test samples, and record other donor metrics, including hematocrit, total protein, and weight.
- Accurately enter donor information into the Donor Information System (DIS).
