Geriatrician Responsibilities

  • Promote the well-being and independence of aging adult patients.
  • Diagnose and treat medical conditions and injuries commonly associated with the aging process.
  • Refer patients to specialists for conditions beyond the scope of geriatric care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care.
  • Monitor and manage patients’ medication regimens to prevent adverse side effects and drug interactions.
  • Assess the benefits and risks of treatments, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Address patients’ physical, mental, and emotional health needs holistically.
  • Demonstrate compassion and strong communication skills when discussing advance care planning, including long-term care options, palliative care, and hospice services with patients and their families.

Qualifications

  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in relevant specialty.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
