Key Responsibilities

This role involves a variety of important tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Medication Preparation: Prepare all medications, including those for research and standard care treatments, by thoroughly reviewing and interpreting physician orders while identifying any potential therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Medication Dispensing: Accurately compound, dispense, package, and label pharmaceutical products to ensure safe and effective medication delivery.
  • Medication Management: Monitor drug therapies to maintain control over medication use and provide recommendations for interventions when necessary.
  • Pharmacy Operations: Organize and oversee the workflow of pharmacy technicians, ensuring the accurate preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals. Verify order entries, charges, and conduct regular inspections to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Pharmacological Support: Provide valuable pharmacological information by addressing inquiries from healthcare professionals and researchers. Counsel patients on medication therapies to promote safe and effective usage.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience working in a hospital pharmacy setting, ideally with substantial involvement in investigational drug products and sterile product preparation.
  • Licensure: Active NYS Pharmacist license in good standing.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency with hospital electronic health records (EHR), drug order entry systems, and controlled drug inventory management systems.
  • Controlled Substance Dispensing: Proven experience in dispensing controlled substances within a hospital environment, including the use of automated drug dispensing systems.
  • Clinical Trial Expertise: Ability to read and interpret clinical trial protocols and dispense both sterile and non-sterile drug products according to protocol guidelines independently, without supervision.
  • Record Keeping and Procedure Writing: Capable of maintaining comprehensive pharmacy records consistently and drafting drug dispensing procedures without supervision.
