Job Description
The Occupational Therapist I is responsible for interpreting, organizing, and applying medically prescribed occupational therapy for both inpatients and outpatients. This role involves assessing individual patient needs, developing treatment plans, and making necessary modifications to ensure effective care.
The Occupational Therapist I provides care in alignment with:
- Scope of Practice Standards and Code of Ethics set by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
- Regulations of the California Board of Occupational Therapy.
Key competencies include the ability to deliver therapy in a safe and supportive environment, using effective communication and demonstrating sensitivity to diverse populations. This includes patients from varied cultural backgrounds, as well as those with different ages, developmental needs, and physical impairments.
This is an entry-level role designed for new graduates or individuals new to the specific healthcare setting. The initial focus is on orientation and mentorship, with a goal of developing into an independent and competent clinician. Successful proficiency at this level is required to advance to Level II.
