About the Job
Position Title:
Occupational Therapist I – Acute Hospital
Location: Orr-Major
Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Occupational Therapist is an integral part of the interdisciplinary patient care team. This role involves conducting personalized evaluations, developing goal-oriented interventions tailored to improve a patient’s ability to perform daily activities, and regularly reviewing the patient’s progress to ensure the goals are being met. Adjustments to the treatment plan are made as necessary.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

Conducts accurate evaluations of selected diagnoses using basic techniques in acute care and rehabilitation.

Seeks clarification of orders from physicians and consults with other OTs as necessary.

Takes a holistic approach, considering the physical, psychosocial, developmental, and cultural needs of the patient.

Develops and implements effective treatment plans using problem-solving and clinical reasoning skills.

Documents evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries clearly and concisely in line with departmental policies and KOTA/AOTA standards.

Provides educational programs for the OT department and other healthcare disciplines, including orientations for nursing and medical students.

May be involved in teaching OT ED labs, with assistance as needed.

Supervises Level I students independently and Level II students after one year of clinical experience, with support from the Student Coordinator.

Meets the Kansas Board of Healing Arts’ continuing education requirements (40 hours/biannually).

Maintains CPR certification.

Adheres to all departmental procedures.

Establishes positive rapport with patients and maintains professionalism with colleagues, patients, and visitors.

Supervises COTAs with regard to patient evaluations, treatment development, and implementation, and provides guidance for HCA.

Must demonstrate the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required for the assigned unit or department.

Additional duties may be assigned based on department/unit needs.
Required Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
