About the Job

As part of the Adult Acute Care Rehabilitation team, this position delivers essential occupational therapy services to help patients enhance their functional abilities at home and in the community. Areas of focus include activities of daily living (ADL) training, energy conservation, upper extremity splinting, exercise, sensory integration, and perceptual/cognitive development. Treatment involves patient and family education as well as therapeutic techniques to improve mobility, strength, and endurance. Occupational Therapists evaluate patients, establish individualized goals, develop and execute treatment plans, and support discharge and placement planning. Additional responsibilities include supervising therapy students, participating in departmental education and research activities, and maintaining documentation and productivity standards. Weekend shift rotation may be required.

Therapeutic Environment

  • Attend department meetings, trainings, and contribute to ongoing education.

  • Adhere to AOTA Code of Ethics, OHSU policies, HIPAA, and state regulations.

Service and Communication

  • Deliver excellent customer service in all patient and staff interactions.

  • Practice active listening and maintain a courteous, helpful demeanor.

  • Address issues proactively and involve leadership when necessary.

  • Ensure timely, clear, and respectful communication across care teams.

Evaluation & Caseload Management

  • Prioritize care based on medical status, rehab potential, and discharge plans.

  • Conduct thorough evaluations and develop individualized treatment goals.

  • Document evaluations and treatments per compliance standards.

  • Accurately code and bill services provided.

  • Provide consults and recommendations to care teams efficiently.

Skilled Rehabilitation Delivery

  • Implement and document evidence-based therapeutic interventions.

  • Adjust treatment based on patient progress and response.

  • Fabricate and modify splints as needed.

  • Communicate rehab strategies and recommendations to caregivers and staff.

  • Guide care planning for continued rehab and safe transitions.

  • Supervise aides, volunteers, and contribute to program development.

Care Coordination

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams during rounds and care planning.

  • Participate in or request family conferences as appropriate.

  • Provide education on rehab needs and safe discharge practices.

  • Offer expert insight to providers regarding rehab levels and outcomes.

Clinical Education

  • Supervise and mentor occupational therapy students during clinical rotations.

  • Support achievement of student goals and provide timely evaluations.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary student education and mentorship.

Performance Improvement & Professional Growth

  • Contribute to departmental quality improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain a flexible and organized schedule; resolve conflicts proactively.

  • Seek and apply continuing education opportunities and share knowledge.

  • Support special projects and assist with additional caseloads when needed.

Department Operations

  • Provide up-to-date availability for scheduling.

  • Respond promptly to staffing requests.

  • Meet or exceed departmental productivity benchmarks.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy (BS, MS, BA, or OTD)

  • Active Oregon OT License

  • Current BLS certification (AHA)

  • Ability to meet OHSU’s standards for conduct, respect, and compliance

  • Capable of performing all essential job functions with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD)

  • Experience or clinical rotations in acute care, SNF, or inpatient rehab

Additional Information

  • Pay Range: $44.91 – $61.65 per hour

  • Work Environment: Inpatient hospital

  • Must lift up to 40 lbs, carry equipment, walk extensively, and manage medical equipment

  • Must respond effectively to urgent medical situations
