Duties & Responsibilities:
- Stay informed on daily events in Washington, D.C. that may influence coverage, determining whether they require a correspondent assignment or live broadcast.
- Maintain a coverage calendar, coordinate production resources, and serve as a key point of contact with the Network Desk.
- Collaborate closely with managers, producers, reporters, and photographers to plan coverage, assign stories, and ensure all content deadlines are met.
- Build and maintain relationships with event planners, government offices, and schedulers to coordinate press access and clearance.
- Track and communicate details on key speakers, witnesses at congressional hearings, major press conferences, and network pool events.
- Actively support and streamline communication between Washington, D.C., and NewsNation’s control rooms and assignment desks.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5-10 years of newsroom experience, preferably in national news and the Washington, D.C., market.
- Experience working on or managing an assignment desk.
- Strong knowledge of Washington, D.C. institutions and political processes.
- Familiarity with network pool structures and transmission lines is a plus.
- Flexibility to work non-traditional hours during breaking news and special events.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise updates.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively articulate real-time developments.
- Strong news judgment and editorial decision-making.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as needed.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- A self-starter who brings creative ideas and a proactive approach to news coverage.
