About the Job

We are seeking a dedicated Billing Specialist to join our team, supporting a client based in Oregon. This role is responsible for handling patient inquiries, managing outstanding or denied insurance claims, submitting appeals, and overseeing account receivables in accordance with clinic policies.

Work Schedule:
This position requires working from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Time (PST).

Key Responsibilities

  • Process insurance claims across various financial classes, including workers’ compensation (if applicable)

  • Liaise with insurance companies to verify claim status, correct any errors, and document all account actions

  • Manage claim denials and appeals, and follow up on aging claims

  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding account details, balances, and refunds

  • Maintain current knowledge of clinic and insurance policies, contracts, and medical terminology

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed on healthcare trends and best practices

  • Contribute to the development of innovative data and analytics solutions for orthopedic business operations

  • Perform additional duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional college coursework or certification is preferred

  • Strong communication skills, especially over the phone, to maintain positive relationships with patients, staff, and providers

  • Ability to collect, interpret, and manage insurance-related data, including contract fee schedules

  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn and navigate office software systems efficiently; preferred typing speed of 50 WPM

  • Familiarity with, or the ability to quickly learn, medical terminology and insurance industry protocols

  • Analytical mindset and a collaborative, solutions-driven approach

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and offer meaningful process improvements

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of billing experience, preferably in a hospital or surgical environment
