About the Job

  • Review and audit alpha, numeric, or symbolic data from the EMR system for patient billing using knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding standards.

  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in coding and documentation.

  • Organize, sort, and prioritize audits by service dates.

  • Stay updated on data requirements specific to both governmental and private insurance providers.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and security of patient medical records.

  • Foster positive and effective working relationships with colleagues by demonstrating integrity, respect, flexibility, and teamwork to support departmental and organizational goals.

  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and additional education/training sessions to continuously develop skills.

  • Utilize coding expertise to assist peers with daily tasks and operational activities.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a medical office or physician coding role, with emphasis on chart review and documentation auditing.

  • Prior experience with the Athena EMR system is preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Bilingual skills are preferred.

  • 1-2 years of experience in AR follow-up and medical billing is required.
