About the Job
The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for handling clerical and financial tasks related to patient billing. This includes verifying billing information, maintaining third-party payer records, resolving billing issues, and following up on submitted claims. The role may also involve processing payments, posting to accounts receivable, and collaborating closely with team members in a supportive office environment.
Key Responsibilities

Submit claims to patients and third-party insurers in a psychiatric office setting.

Maintain documentation and ensure patient contact details are up to date.

Respond to patient billing inquiries via phone or written communication.

Track claim submissions and follow up on unpaid or denied claims.

Resubmit claims when necessary and engage with insurance providers for resolution.

Handle incoming payments, including cash and third-party reimbursements.

Post payments and reconcile accounts on patient ledgers.

Balance daily transactions and produce relevant reports.

Maintain accurate patient demographic records and billing data.

Investigate and resolve patient billing complaints.

Monitor and report on overdue accounts.

Initiate collection actions such as patient outreach and correcting claim information.

Carry out other administrative duties as assigned.

Ensure compliance with HIPAA and uphold strict confidentiality.

Conduct insurance verifications and manage patient referrals.
Preferred Experience

Previous experience in medical billing and office administration, especially in a private practice setting.

Pre-Employment Requirement

This role requires completion and approval of an L2 background check through the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA), which includes fingerprinting.

If you do not already have an active/eligible L2 clearance, one must be completed prior to employment at a cost of $89.15 through Digital Trusted Identity Services (DTIS).
