Maintenance Mechanic – Job Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for assembling, disassembling, testing, and troubleshooting paper converting manufacturing equipment, including mechanical and electrical components of varying complexity. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems to ensure optimal equipment performance. The Maintenance Mechanic aligns with the goals of the Maintenance Department and broader business operations to exceed customer expectations while adhering to Graphic Packaging International’s (GPI) cultural, financial, and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold GPI’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical production equipment within the facility.
- Perform breakdown repairs, preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance on production equipment, utilities, and building systems.
- Complete parts requisitions, work orders, and time sheets using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Disassemble defective electrical equipment, replace worn or damaged parts, and reassemble machinery.
- Replace fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches as needed.
- Work independently and collaboratively with production teams.
- Follow and promote safe manufacturing work practices.
- Utilize PLCs for routine troubleshooting and system analysis.
- Read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints.
- Complete all required manufacturing documentation.
- Adhere to preventative and predictive maintenance schedules.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Required Skills & Experience
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of machine tools (e.g., drill presses, welders, grinders).
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with production machinery used in the folding carton industry.
- Must have personal tools necessary for mechanical and electrical repairs.
- Flexibility to work overtime, alternative shifts, and weekends as required.
Education & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods based on job assignments.
- Perform awkward and repetitive movements as required.
- Lift up to 20 lbs regularly and 75 lbs occasionally.
- Push/pull a pallet jack with a 45 lb force load.
- Use various hand and electrical tools for maintenance tasks.
- Work in environments with fluctuating temperatures
