Position Overview
The Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS), Division for Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY), is seeking a Licensed Psychologist to join a multidisciplinary treatment team within a juvenile justice residential facility.
The Licensed Psychologist will play a key role in assessing, treating, and supporting youth in care by providing comprehensive mental health services.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update psychological testing and assessment materials.
- Supervise testing and assessment performed by Master’s level psychologists and unlicensed psychologists (Psychologist 2, Associate Psychologist).
- Conduct admission screenings, including mental status evaluations and suicide risk assessments.
- Perform 30-day assessments, utilizing mental health and substance use screenings, interviews with youth and collateral sources, and record reviews to develop psychosocial assessments and mental health treatment plans.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists to coordinate treatment planning for youth.
- Provide individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.
- Conduct treatment reviews to monitor progress and adjust plans as needed.
- Administer cognitive and psychological testing as required.
- Serve as a member of the facility’s Committee on Special Education.
- Assist with discharge planning to ensure a smooth transition for youth upon release.
The Licensed Psychologist will work closely with youth case managers, direct care staff, education staff, and medical professionals to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans aimed at enhancing youth skills in:
- Emotional intelligence
- Interpersonal effectiveness
- Emotion regulation
- Distress tolerance
Supervision & Professional Development
- Reports directly to the Facility Assistant Director for Treatment (ADT) and participates in individual and group clinical supervision.
- Engages in a monthly statewide psychology supervision meeting with psychologists from nine DJJOY facilities to discuss cases and system-wide best practices.
- Access to clinical training opportunities with approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from the New York State Department of Education.
Minimum Qualifications
Transfer Eligibility:
- Must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a 70.1 transfer-eligible title.

- This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
- To qualify under NY HELPS, candidates must meet the open-competitive requirements, which include:
- Being licensed and currently registered to practice psychology in the State of New York.
