About the Role
Every day, the donors you meet will inspire you, and the high-quality plasma you collect will contribute to life-changing medicines. At BioLife, we uphold a strong commitment to customer service and quality. As a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse), you will assess donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test outcomes. This role operates under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager, as applicable) for operational direction and under the Center Physician for medical matters.
The Medical Support Specialist must be well-versed in industry regulations related to plasma collection or manufacturing environments. Additionally, they will follow guidance from BioLife Medical Affairs and support center-level Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives.
How You Will Contribute
- Assess donor eligibility, ensuring proper management of informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) reviews.
- Evaluate and manage donor reactions as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including implementing Center Physician’s standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency facilities.
- Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs regarding medical findings, donor safety, eligibility concerns, and technical issues.
- Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees when applicable.
- Manage employee health incidents and determine if further evaluation is needed through occupational health or emergency services, following EHS guidelines.
- Serve as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, assisting with local investigations related to pandemic threats.
What You Bring to Takeda
- High school diploma or equivalent, including completion of a recognized nursing program meeting state requirements.
- Current LPN or LVN licensure in the state of employment.
- Valid CPR and AED certification.
- Fulfillment of state-mandated IV therapy requirements.
- Completion of FDA-approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialists.
- At least two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
