Job Duties
This position is an hourly position. Hourly employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week/per month on average over the course of a year and are limited to 1,500 hours within a 12-month period. No State benefits are provided.
This position is based at the Accomac Equipment Shop in Accomac, Virginia but may be required to work in other locations within the Hampton Roads District.
The Hampton Roads District is seeking an Equipment Repair Technician to Diagnose, repair, inspect and maintain motorized and mechanical equipment related to construction, highway maintenance, grounds, and automotive equipment of all types and in varied locations.
The Core Responsibilities Of The Position Include
Diagnose vehicle, equipment or asset failures using electronic testing equipment, service and equipment repair manuals and on-line resources. Recommend outsourcing for major repairs when needed.
Perform repairs and overhauls to all types of automobiles, equipment, and tools to include engines, transmissions, driveline components, electrical and computer systems, fuel injection systems, air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic components and air brakes.
Design, fabricate, modify, and weld components to repair, rebuild, or replace parts.
Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, equipment, or assets according to PM schedule and guidelines. Make repairs as needed when deficiencies are found or recommend outsourcing.
Perform duties, tasks, activities and/or projects as assigned.
Required Skills For Job & Position
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
- Ability to independently perform major repairs and maintenance on a variety of diesel and gasoline trucks and equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations.
- Ability to comprehend service and repair manuals, gauges, and testing devices.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
- Knowledge of cutting, welding and fabrication operations.
- Ability to read and comprehend service and equipment repair manuals, gauges, and testing devices.
Additional Considerations
- A combination of training, experience, or education in Equipment Repair or related field desired.
- ASE certification desired.
- Experience repairing and maintaining a variety of automotive and construction equipment.
- Experience using cutting and welding equipment. ASE certifications preferred.
- Holding a Virginia State Inspection License, refrigerant recovery and recycling certification, and/or Class B CDL.
