About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced manager to lead and manage our IoT provision. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to foster a culture of trust, collaboration, innovation, and accountability, as well as experience in curriculum development and driving continuous improvement.

Main Responsibilities:

This list outlines the key priorities of this role, as directed by your line manager, and is not exhaustive:

  • Curriculum Leadership: Lead the curriculum team in preparing, developing, and implementing curriculum, teaching, and learning plans for the designated curriculum area, aligned with the College’s strategic plan. This includes assessing current and future needs and ensuring plans are robust and fit for purpose, meeting departmental and College requirements. This role includes a set number of teaching hours.
  • Timetabling: Lead the delivery, development, and maintenance of effective timetables for IoT programs, considering physical resources (e.g., accommodation, specialist facilities) and optimizing human resources by balancing skills and experience and allocating classes appropriately.
  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly monitor College, team, and individual targets (as specified by the Director of Curriculum), including student attendance, retention, achievement, and progress. Develop and implement strategies to support teaching staff in achieving key performance indicators and address underperformance.
  • Quality Assurance: Lead the quality assurance of teaching and learning for the IoT curriculum and related courses across the College. Assess and drive quality improvements, promote and implement innovative best practices, and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all university quality and assessment processes and procedures within agreed timeframes. Ensure MidKent College complies with all Office for Students, QAA, and CMA requirements for its IoT HE provision.
  • Business Planning: Work with the Director of Curriculum to lead the business planning process for the department. This includes research, analysis, data provision, and developing options and solutions based on program knowledge, student retention and achievement, and their impact on human, financial, and physical resources.
  • Staff Management: Manage designated staff, including allocating duties, performance management, absence management, one-on-ones, timekeeping, leave approval, and the cost-effective use of overtime and time off in lieu. Ensure compliance with College policies and procedures and participate in staff recruitment and selection.
  • Curriculum Development: Lead the development, design, and implementation of an innovative, employer-led curriculum in construction and engineering, collaborating with the curriculum team, apprenticeship team, and validating universities.
