Key Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), attending breakdowns when necessary. Ensure vehicles are prepared and presented for their annual tests, managing your workload to maximize vehicle uptime.
  • Diagnostic Procedures: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and identify mechanical issues across vehicle and body systems.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of repairs, services, and parts used within the maintenance database.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines during maintenance procedures.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Conduct routine maintenance, including electrical and engine diagnostics.
  • Repair engines, transmissions, and other mechanical components as needed.
  • Perform incidental welding and additional mechanical repairs.
  • Inspect and test mechanical units to identify faults and malfunctions.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components in transport systems.
  • Provide training and advice to apprentices and co-workers.
  • Utilize power and hand tools for vehicle servicing and repair.
  • Work shifts and overtime as required to meet business needs.

Experience and Skills

  • Qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Mechanic with a minimum of 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience in HGV maintenance and repair.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of HGVs.
  • Strong diagnostic skills with good computer literacy.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, and able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • A dedicated team player with a strong sense of commitment.
  • Ability to follow written, verbal, or diagram-based instructions.
  • Knowledge of waste collection vehicles is preferred.
