PURPOSE

The Health Inventory Control Specialist oversees purchasing, managing, and controlling all inventory stock in the City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) Central Supply area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Inventory Control

 

  • Administer and manage inventory controls for MHD supplies and materials, including medications, across four physical sites and remote locations.
  • Ensure secure, quality, and efficient storage of MHD physical inventory, timely rotation, and appropriate surplus of materials.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate disposal of expired or spoiled inventory.
  • Ensure the security, timely delivery, and effective control and care for medications and specimens required for transport.

 

Purchasing

 

  • Use various means to arrange and conduct purchases of supplies and clinical products, including medications, for MHD program staff.
  • Manage MHD vendor and supplier credit and purchasing accounts, including documentation of compliance for 340(b) discount purchases and State/Federal regulations on purchase and delivery of medications.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The Health Inventory Control Specialist must be willing and able to do the following:

 

  • Carry a mobile device and/or tablet during business hours.
  • Occasionally work outside of standard business hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment/material alone.
  • Respond to an emergency or broad-impact event.
  • Required pre-employment vaccines include:
    • TB Test (at time of hire and annually throughout employment)
    • MMR Vaccine
    • Hep B Vaccine
    • Varicella Vaccine
    • Covid-19 Vaccine Confirmation
  • Required pre-employment tests include:
    • Physical Exam with lift test
    • Vision Exam
    • Audio-Gram
    • Drug Screen – Non-DOT

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in inventory control, oversight and compliance, performing duties related to the essential functions listed above.
  • Valid driver’s license at time of application, throughout the selection process and throughout employment.
  • Good driving record at time of application, throughout the selection process and throughout employment. Driving record will be checked during the selection process, prior to the job offer and throughout employment.

 

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Regulated/compliance-driven inventory experience in a medical, construction, wholesale, or retail setting.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

Technical

 

  • Knowledge of the principles and best practices of inventory management and security, including controls and compliance.
  • Knowledge of warehousing procedures to ensure inventory is easy to find and to identify variances.
  • Ability to learn and apply the principles and practice of public sector purchasing, including City of Milwaukee purchasing and receiving procedures.
  • Ability to learn the principles and best practices of medication and medical specimen inventory control and transport preparation.
  • Ability to conduct and document the purchase of goods and services.
  • Ability to use computer and data systems and other software to manage inventory, audits, and reports on inventory activities.
  • Ability to learn new software, systems, and equipment as they become available, including those related to inventory management and barcoding.
  • Ability to document, review, and revise processes and business policies.
  • Ability to distinguish between letters and numbers to accurately document and identify commodities.
  • Ability to use standard computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
