Our client is looking for an Interim Head of Finance to cover their Financial Controller’s maternity leave. This role will be pivotal in maintaining the smooth operation of financial processes across both UK and US markets. Reporting directly to the CFO, you’ll manage a team of 4-5 finance assistants and accountants, ensuring financial integrity and supporting strategic growth.
At the end of the term, there will be an opportunity to apply for the permanent Head of Financial Planning & Analysis position within the company.
Your Mission
As the Interim Head of Finance, you will:
- Lead and manage a finance team of 4-5 assistants and accountants, ensuring seamless operation of financial processes.
- Oversee the full accounting function, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and bookkeeping for both UK and US operations.
- Manage month-end close processes, reconciliations, and deliver management reporting to the CFO and leadership team.
- Ensure compliance through comprehensive VAT return reviews and preparation of year-end accounts for both UK and US entities.
- Collaborate with external accountants and work closely with the current Head of Finance on audit processes.
- Handle payroll processing and employee onboarding, ensuring strict compliance with policies and legal standards.
- Drive process improvements, championing automation tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Support the R&D and loan consulting teams by addressing client queries and managing R&D accounting activities.
Who You Are
You are a proactive, experienced finance professional who thrives in dynamic environments. You have:
- A full qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with experience in audit or audit ownership.
- Familiarity with UK GAAP, US GAAP, and/or IFRS, particularly in businesses managing US subsidiaries.
- Experience leading and developing small finance teams, ideally in start-ups or high-growth environments.
- Previous hands-on experience with Xero accounting software is a plus.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with a proven track record of implementing process improvements.
- The ability to work independently and meet deadlines without compromising work quality.
Your Background
- You have managed finance operations; experience with cross-border requirements (UK & US) is advantageous but not mandatory.
- You are detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy and compliance across financial processes.
- You are organised, with the capacity to prioritise tasks in a multitasking environment.
