Company Overview
Recognized by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and 60 Minutes for its groundbreaking investment in educators and exceptional student outcomes, The Equity Project (TEP) Charter School was founded in September 2009 in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. Originally serving grades 5 through 8, TEP has expanded to include Kindergarten through 4th grade, with plans to introduce Pre-K, ultimately growing into a Pre-K–8th grade school serving 1,200 students.
TEP’s mission is to advance educational equity for students from traditionally underserved communities by employing master teachers to deliver high-quality instruction in Academics, Arts, and Athletics (the 3 A’s). TEP reallocates public charter school funding to offer its educators an annual salary of $140,000, along with opportunities for a substantial performance-based bonus tied to whole-school achievements.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, a rigorous long-term study found that TEP drives significant academic progress, with students achieving test score gains equivalent to 1.6 additional years of learning in Math, along with notable improvements in Science and English.
