Electrician I – University of Iowa Campus
What to Expect
Join ENGIE North America as an Electrician I at the University of Iowa Campus, where you’ll play a key role in maintaining and servicing utility substations, distribution systems, and production plant electrical equipment operating at less than 600 volts.
Our responsibilities include the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the university’s utility plants and distribution network across the main and satellite campuses. We are in the early stages of a 50-year Operations and Maintenance agreement, ensuring long-term infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
With safety as your top priority, you will:
- Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair low-voltage electrical utility systems.
- Work on power distribution systems, switchgear, protection and control systems, lighting, ventilation, pumping systems, battery systems, instrumentation, and motor controls.
- Determine job site work sequences and safety procedures, procure materials, coordinate outages, and restore systems to operation.
- Maintain and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, system logs, and documentation.
- Assist high-voltage electricians when working around medium voltage (600V–15kV) utility systems.
What You Bring
To succeed in this role, you should have: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrician License
Experience with electric utility systems and equipment
Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining electrical utility equipment
Knowledge of electrical principles, trade techniques, codes, and safety regulations
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and control system drawings
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and recommend system improvements
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Additional Requirements
- Adherence to ENGIE’s ethics and safety policies
- On-site presence required daily
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record (company vehicle operation required)
- Willingness to obtain a CDL for bucket truck operation
- Comfortable with 50% outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $26.59 – $40.75 per hour (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
