Electrical Maintenance Engineer – University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust

Job Overview

The Estates Department at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust (UHD) provides comprehensive maintenance, repair, and installation services for buildings, grounds, and engineering systems across the Trust.

We are seeking a qualified Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. This full-time, permanent role offers a competitive salary of £29,970 – £36,483 per annum, plus a local Recruitment and Retention Premium (RRP) of £3,277 per year. Additional benefits include a £1,000 annual on-call retainer, overtime opportunities, 27 days of annual leave, and access to a voluntary pension scheme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and install electrical and mechanical systems within hospital premises.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and technical standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults in complex engineering services and equipment.
  • Participate in the emergency on-call rota and be available for overtime/weekend work.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues and contractors.

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship with BTEC HNC, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification.
  • Extensive experience in building engineering services and plant maintenance.
  • Specialist training and knowledge in at least one of the following:
    • LV & HV Electrical Systems
    • Heating & Ventilation Systems
    • Safe Water Systems
    • Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS)
    • Confined Spaces & Decontamination Processes
  • Strong understanding of Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) guidelines and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to work independently in a complex engineering environment.
  • A full UK driving licence and residency within 30 minutes of the hospital to fulfil on-call duties.
