Since its establishment in 1914, HeartShare has grown to operate over 100 program sites across Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island, and extends its reach to 61 of New York’s 62 counties through energy assistance grants for low-income families.

Personnel Management

  • Supervise teachers, assistant teachers, and teacher aides, ensuring a high standard of performance.
  • Assess and evaluate classroom staff performance during the probationary period and at least annually thereafter.
  • Provide written notification of formal evaluations or observations at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Conduct feedback meetings and deliver written evaluations within a reasonable timeframe after observations.
  • Monitor instructional staff daily, including attendance, class schedules, and lesson plans.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of staff training and professional development programs.
  • Attend staff, team, and administrative meetings to foster collaboration and efficiency.
  • Assist in the interview and hiring process, making staff recommendations to the Senior Vice President of Education.
  • Meet with the Senior Vice President at least once a week to discuss progress and updates.

Service Programming

  • Ensure that the curriculum aligns with developmental best practices and meets the unique needs of each child.
  • Provide classroom consultation on behavior management strategies.
  • Oversee the implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), Creative Curriculum, and Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG).

Parent Engagement

  • Encourage active parental involvement through meetings, educational workshops, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Ensure continuous communication between families and the school, including the use of communication notebooks.

Building Maintenance & Security

  • Conduct daily inspections of the school building to maintain safety, cleanliness, and an inviting environment. Report concerns to the Senior Vice President of Education or the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ensure classrooms are equipped with the necessary supplies and materials to support children’s educational needs.

Public Relations & Outreach

  • Engage in outreach initiatives to maintain full enrollment.
  • Conduct school tours for prospective families.
  • Represent the school in the community through presentations and visits, fostering awareness and engagement.

Classroom Instruction

  • Step in as a classroom instructor as needed to ensure continued learning and engagement.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education or a related field (as outlined in Article 47).
  • Advanced School Building Leadership credentials (SAS or SBL Certification).
  • Minimum of two years’ experience teaching preschool special education students.
  • New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education or a related field (per Article 47 requirements).
