Digital Web Developer

What You’ll Do

• Develop custom site features tailored to stakeholder needs.
• Create enterprise-level WordPress plugins and themes using PHP and Gutenberg blocks with React.js.
• Build integrations with both internal and external systems via APIs.
• Guide technical direction, making informed decisions on whether to write custom code or leverage community-contributed solutions.
• Ensure the highest level of security in all delivered code.
• Debug and optimize performance across various browsers and devices.
• Implement best practices for WordPress, PHP, and JavaScript development.
• Promote a culture of documentation and knowledge sharing in a respectful and collaborative manner.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code with a focus on readability.
• Continuously monitor and improve website performance.

Requirements

• Expert-level PHP skills with professional development experience.
• Extensive WordPress engineering expertise, including PHP, React.js, and Gutenberg block development while following best practices.
• Strong debugging skills for performance and caching issues in different environments.
• Experience designing scalable and maintainable site architectures.
• Comfort working with a Unix command line.
• Experience developing localized websites.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-developers.
• Ability to work autonomously and effectively self-manage in a fully remote role.
• Experience designing and maintaining update systems with thorough testing and quality assurance.
• A balance of order and efficiency with an action-oriented mindset.
• Proactive approach to learning, growth, and sharing knowledge.
• Proficiency in Git and version control, including branching, merging, submitting, and reviewing code.
• Experience working with RESTful APIs and data formats like JSON and XML.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience developing WordPress websites.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of modern JavaScript and TypeScript (React and Node).
• Experience developing Gutenberg Blocks in a modern WordPress environment.
• Front-end development experience.
• Understanding of SEO best practices.
• UX/UI knowledge.
• Experience working with MySQL, including importing/exporting data and optimizing database queries.
• Familiarity with caching systems and content delivery networks (CDNs).
