About the job
Role:
To preserve the Credit Union’s assets by controlling delinquent loan accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments and/or recovering collateral. Complies with all Credit Union rules and regulations, including BSA/AML, and Loan and Fair Lending Policies.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- E 30% Monitors and works the Overdraft Privilege Program (ODP) reports daily. Answers internal and external ODP related questions and resolves issues quickly. Works with members and Collections Agency in setting up Fresh Starts, posts payments, and file maintains accounts. Processes charge-offs. Brings major issues or concerns to the attention of the Debt Resolutions Manager.
- E 20% Maintains accurate files, notes, and reports on all collections activity. Responds to consumer disputes from Credit Bureau Agencies to ensure proper reporting of account activity.
- E 20% Contacts delinquent accounts by phone and mail; takes appropriate action to bring current. Counsels members using knowledge of Credit Union guidelines, NCUA policies, as well as the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. Uses collections techniques to maintain good relationships with delinquent members yet avoid losses.
- E 15% Analyzes the financial situation of delinquent borrowers to determine possible modifications due to hardship. Collects on returned checks, delinquent property, taxes, and negative shares–freezing shares as required. Submits delinquency loan activity for supervisor.
- E 5% Understands basic bankruptcy and garnishment laws. Logs new bankruptcy cases and bank
- attachments per procedures.
- E 5% Informs management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans. Gathers information on delinquent loan activity for Debt Resolutions Manager. Prepares a variety of reports, and recommends policy and procedure updates as needed, and to ensure compliance with regulations.
- N 5% Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
- 1. Ensure timely contact of members with delinquent loans to inquire about re-payment intent, initiating calls to members as required.
- 2. Maximize the collection and/or recovery of credit union assets from delinquent and charged-off accounts.
- 3. Maintain accurate and complete records of all collection and recovery activity.
- 4. Adhere to provisions as set forth in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and ensure collection activity is always within Credit Union policy and all relevant regulations.
- 5. Identify and inform management of potential underwriting problems.
- 6. Provide informed, professional, and accurate service and support to all members and employees by
- responding to email within 3 hours, answering telephone within 3 rings, and replying to messages within 3 hours.
- 7. Troubleshoot and resolve member and internal inquires in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ideal candidate:
- Years of experience: 1+ years of experience collecting on consumer loans (personal loans, credit card loans, auto loans)
- Non-negotiables:
- 1-3 years of experience
- Must have good communications skills. Ten key calculator, computer, and keyboarding skills.

- Length of assignment (if contract): 4 month temp to perm assignment
- Core Work Hours (flex, OT): 8:30-5
- Pay Rate: $24/hour (might have flex up to $25/hour)
