SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Manage and mitigate credit risk for Sojitz Corporation of America (SCA) by applying risk management strategies, including analyzing customer financial performance, reviewing contracts and agreements, and maintaining adherence to established credit risk management procedures to safeguard the company’s interests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
RISK MANAGEMENT
- Evaluate creditworthiness of new and existing accounts based on financials, and information retrieved from external sources such as S&P Capital IQ, Credit Risk Monitor, Bloomberg terminal, D&B, and industry reports. Contact companies directly as needed, including the possibility of visits and meetings with client company management when necessary.
- Monitor the risk portfolio to minimize losses by identifying delinquent accounts and overseeing U.S. and international accounts receivable portfolios.
- Collaborate with business departments to contact customers by email, phone, or by sending past-due letters to resolve payment issues. Request assistance from the Legal or other Departments when warranted. Maintain the latest credit limit information in accounting systems (SAP, FOCUS, MTS) by entering required information as a team (e.g., expiration date, rating, insurance information) after credit applications are approved.
- Post-Merger Integration (PMI): Establish risk management rules and processes for newly acquired companies to align with Sojitz Corporation of America’s standards. Visit acquired companies to establish relationships and ensure a smooth integration of credit and risk policies.
CREDIT INSURANCE
- Oversee the administration of the Credit Insurance Policy by reviewing credit limits, ensuring appropriate coverage of transactions, and maintaining consistency with internal procedures. Follow up on claims and report on past-due transactions.
- Assist to ensure insurance policy provides SCA with the most effective coverage by filing claims within the insurance terms, reviewing underwriting decisions and interfacing with underwriters, preparing reports to support SCA’s positions to appeal insurance company’s decisions, and determine recovery strategies.
DAY-TO-DAY FUNCTIONS:
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
- Provide support to business departments by obtaining D&B reports, generating ratings, and verifying credit insurance coverage for new business requests.
- Negotiate with the credit insurance company regarding coverage amount, terms, and conditions.
- Process credit limit applications and conduct deliberations on them.
- Attend team meetings to discuss ongoing projects, updates, and strategies.
- Reach out to business departments with updates, follow-ups, and reminders through emails and other communication channels.
- Collaborate with multiple subsidiaries across the Americas to prepare and submit monthly reports, such as long position reports and overdue reporting.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This employee will report to the General Manager and will work together as a team to provide risk management services mainly to Machinery, Chemicals, Plastics, Forest Products, Foods, and Mineral Resources groups, as well as certain subsidiaries of SCA in the U.S. and Latin America.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in credit or financial analysis preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to collect relevant information and support managerial decisions.
- Critical thinking and broad-mindedness to evaluate situations from multiple perspectives.
- Good understanding of Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, and Cash Flow Statements.
- Basic understanding of credit insurance.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Spanish fluency is preferred, but not required.
