My client is seeking a strong Controller will be responsible for operational goals and objectives. The key aspect of this role will have a direct reporting to the Head of Finance and working closely with the operations team(s) at all active locations.

This individual with business acumen will mainly partner with the operations team to provide financial support including but not limited to financial performance reporting, calculating, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, internal control and compliance, asset management and cash management. The incumbent will collaborate with the site leadership and management team to ensure all areas of the finance & accounting functions are supported and the business priorities are translated into comprehensive actions.

Core Accountabilities:

• Timely and accurately Monthly reporting of operations results.

• Track, monitor, and report planned budgets/forecast vs. actual spend using cost accounting tools (Oracle, Zedas and other systems). Provide variance explanations and possible recovery plan actions.

• Assist with the preparation, processing and tracking of contract CRs.

• In conjunction with Operations Team, develop the Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) and Budgets/Forecasts for 1 to 3 years and next 3 months on a rolling basis.

• Develop accurate costing structures to complete estimates and percent complete evaluations, as required.

• Work with the operations team to assist with the preparation and tracking of potential claims for additional work items not in original scope.

• Track internal and external invoicing and reconciliation of cash receipts and retention.

• Understand and report on the cash flow position.

• Track subcontractor invoicing, payments and reconciliations.

• Review and approve Purchase Order Requisitions in alignment with budget and track P.O.s in Oracle.

• Prepare quarterly forecasts and annual budget and reporting of the key performance indicators.

• Monitor the financial “health” of the operations and raise the “red flag” when a negative impact or condition arises.

• Manage regulatory and financial reporting in accordance with internal control rules.

• Monitor, analyze and communicate financial risks & opportunities.

• Recommend action plans to alleviate all known risks.

• Develop action plan to improve contract margin & cash profile.

Qualifications:

• University degree in finance or accounting (or related)

• CMA, CPA, CA and/or suitable professional designation

• Previous experience working in the passenger/rail transit industry is an asset.

• Previous experience in Oracle Fusion ERP or similar large size of ERPs (example SAP). ERP implementation for a Green field will an asset.

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role and responsibility.

• Ability to create, track and present overall Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure success.

• Excellent communication skills and impeccable ethics

• Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.

• Client facing and being assertive in a professional manner

• Strong problem-solving skills, project management and organizing.

• Exceptional understanding of MS Office suite, especially in MS-Excel, PowerPoint
