Job Description:
As the BDC Controller, you will play a vital role in the financial management of the firm’s direct origination platforms and Business Development Companies (BDCs). Reporting directly to the fund Controller, you will ensure the quality execution of core accounting responsibilities, drive improvements in processes and reporting, and engage in problem-solving. Primary Responsibilities:
- Month-End/Quarterly Close Process:
- Lead the month-end and quarterly close processes, including the completion of a NAV package and all relevant supporting documentation.
- Calculate performance figures and assist with corporate and Regulation S-X reporting.
- SEC Filings and Financial Statements:
- Review and prepare quarterly SEC filings (10Q/10K) and financial statements.
- Board Materials Preparation:
- Lead the preparation of quarterly board materials and presentations.
- Vendor Management:
- Lead discussions with various vendors and third-party service providers, including sub-administrators, custodians, transfer agents, and valuation firms.
- Cash Activity Analysis:
- Identify and analyze daily cash activity for various fund entities, coordinating with administrators and deal teams as necessary.
- Portfolio Pricing Verification:
- Verify portfolio pricing against internal models and third-party sources, supervising third-party valuation firms in conjunction with the valuation team.
- Special Projects:
- Assist Senior Controllers and the CFO with special projects and ad hoc requests as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education & Certification:
- CPA preferred.
- College degree with a competitive GPA, demonstrating strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Experience:
- 4-8 years of relevant work experience in portfolio and partnership accounting, with a mix of private and public accounting preferred.
- Experience in public/private funds, CLOs, credit hedge funds, or financial services is a plus.
- Process Controls & Valuation:
- Previous experience evaluating process controls, procedures, and flows.
- Experience with the valuation of both illiquid and liquid assets.
- Skills:
- Strong initiative and accountability for running processes to conclusion.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information and see the big picture.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with Alteryx, Anaplan, or Power BI is a plus.
