The Opportunity
HUB International Insurance Services Inc administers Contractor Development and Bonding Programs (CDABPs) for public and private entities seeking to maximize small and diverse contractor involvement in public construction. HUB is seeking a Contractor Development Account Manager (CDM) who will be primarily responsible for the growth and development of small and diverse construction businesses.
Job Summary
The Contractor Development Account Manager (CDAM) maintains a portfolio of ready contractors that demonstrate business growth. CDAM leads contractors through assessments, workplans, preparation for bond pre-qualification process (contract bond, payment bond, performance bond, or bid bond) and capital access which enables contractor’s growth. CDAM supports contractor training, education and special initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities
Conducts contractor assessments, workplans, profiles, and growth cards.
Assists contractors in obtaining bonds, including increasing overall bond capacity.
Reviews all financial documents for contractors before submitting surety bond applications or requests.
Acts as an advisor and liaison between contractors, surety agencies, and insurance agencies, providing business advice and management consulting to contractors, when necessary, in order to support growth.
Assists with identifying and delivering appropriate education and training workshops and seminars to contractors. Including preparation or training materials, planning and logistics.
Assists with identification of rightsized project opportunities.
Conducts bid preparation and reviews, including prime partner match making.
Supports contractors with the prequalification preparation process (certification, safety, insurance etc.)
Ensures contractors’ business needs are met by the specific bonds requested and bond amounts are made at competitive rates.
Establishes and maintains strong business relationships with contractors and surety brokers; continues to nurture relationships with contractors after bonds have been written.
Provides professional, courteous service to contractors, insurance carrier representatives, underwriters, business partners, and HUB colleagues, resulting in a rate of account retention that meets or exceeds expectations.
Reviews current, past, and future contracts or bids to assess risk for both the surety agency and the contractor.
Assists with managing, organizing, and conducting client meetings; travel may be required.
Maintains accurate and organized account files by appropriately documenting conversations with clients and carrier representatives; updates all HUB computer systems and automated agency management systems; ensures the accuracy of data.
Prepares reports, proposal and comparisons for management as required.
Seeks continued knowledge and stays abreast of changes in the insurance industry and other external conditions that may impact their clients. Makes appropriate recommendations to clients in response to those changes; Attends industry related continuing education training and courses.
Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Job Specifications
Qualifications
High School Diploma / GED
3-5 years of related construction and surety bond experience or equivalent combination of education & experience.
Property & Casualty license preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge and understanding of surety bonds (bid, payment, and performance) and/or the construction industry, particularly public works construction.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations to ensure that all criteria and standards are met.
Ability to effectively and professionally communicate orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Computer skills: proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook and agency management systems.
Critical Thinking: Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Desire to learn and grow within the insurance industry.
Confidence and demeanor to effectively interact with all levels within the organization.
