Job Description:

The pharmacist in this role will be responsible for promoting pharmaceutical care by managing the medication process, identifying and preventing potential drug-related problems, and resolving actual drug-related problems. This includes performing the duties of a registered pharmacist as outlined by Texas Children’s Hospital. All responsibilities will be executed in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for patients across all age groups (from pediatric to adult). The pharmacist will:

  • Ensure the appropriateness of medication doses based on the patient’s diagnosis, weight/body surface area, allergies, and drug interactions, as evidenced by the lack of medication incidents.
  • Accurately enter medication orders in the system, with no medication incidents.
  • Ensure correct medications are dispensed and delivered according to established guidelines, with no dispensing errors.
  • Follow aseptic technique and infection control protocols in preparing sterile products and ensure that technicians and other pharmacists comply.
  • Complete annual re-certification in aseptic technique/infection control and score at least 90% on written and practical exams.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Pharm.D. (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree required.
  • Registered Pharmacist (RPH) certification in the state of Texas required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of hospital staff pharmacist experience required; pediatric experience is preferred.
  • 40 hours of training in compounding sterile products accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education or the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is preferred.
  • Knowledge of EPIC system is preferred.
