Required Job Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nutrition or Dietetics.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD).
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist in the State of Illinois.
  • Proven experience in supervisory and administrative roles.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • At least two years of clinical experience.
  • Experience in bariatrics; mature candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification or willingness to obtain CDE within two years of employment.

Responsibilities

Nutrition Care

  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition evaluations using appropriate tools, such as growth charts for children, and nutrient analysis aligned with Recommended Dietary Allowances for all age groups.
  • Apply the nutrition care process to provide individualized, age-appropriate care for patients with complex nutritional needs or malnutrition, following established nutrition protocols to assess treatment effectiveness.
  • Monitor, assess, and adjust nutrition therapy through ongoing evaluations to optimize patients’ nutritional status.
  • Administer enteral feedings following protocol for patients unable to consume oral intake, closely tracking potential complications and adjusting feedings as needed to support improved nutritional health.
  • Utilize metabolic carts per protocol and apply results to develop tailored nutrition prescriptions.
  • Serve as an essential member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, collaborating with medical staff and contributing nutrition expertise during rounds and meetings.
  • Provide nutrition counseling at discharge, ensuring age-appropriate education and participation in the creation or revision of patient education materials.
  • Foster effective working relationships with nursing departments to ensure high-quality, coordinated care.
  • Oversee and guide host/diet technicians in their interactions with patients at nutritional risk.

Faculty Responsibilities in the Department of Clinical Nutrition

  • Serve as a clinical preceptor, supervising and evaluating dietetic interns during their practicum experiences to promote professional growth.
  • Develop learning objectives and implement educational activities for student training.
  • Support student research initiatives by suggesting research topics and attending research presentations.
  • Actively contribute as a faculty member within the Clinical Nutrition department.

Research Activities

  • Assess and integrate findings from scientific literature into clinical practice.
  • Participate in journal club discussions and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Specialty Outpatient Clinics

  • Provide specialized nutrition counseling and education in outpatient settings.
  • Monitor assigned units and clinics to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.
  • Actively participate as a key member of the healthcare team in specialized medical areas.
  • Engage in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support departmental objectives, including policy and procedure updates, standards-of-care revisions, and the development of educational materials.
  • Serve on interdisciplinary committees as needed.
  • Contribute to special projects and program implementation.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills (including EPIC, CBORD, and MS Office) for effective communication and workflow management.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies.

Bariatric, Endocrinology, and Gastroenterology-Related Duties

  • Ability to travel to off-site locations as required.
  • Flexible work hours to accommodate program needs.
