Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Responsibilities

  • Monitor and report changes in residents’ conditions and needs.
  • Respond promptly to call lights and alarms, ensuring residents receive timely assistance.
  • Obtain and record vital signs and weights, reporting findings as needed.
  • Prioritize and manage tasks efficiently within designated time frames.
  • Track and document intake and output as required.
  • Collect and prepare specimens for lab transport.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, skin care, toileting, grooming, and dressing, while encouraging independence whenever possible.
  • Provide assistance with meals, including feeding residents and ensuring proper nutrition.
  • Support residents with toileting needs and provide incontinence care as necessary.
  • Reposition and transfer residents every 2-3 hours or as needed.
  • Maintain CNA II certification requirements (if applicable).
  • Help residents move to activity areas, the dining room, or other designated spaces.
  • Maintain a clean, comfortable, and home-like environment.
  • Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Support residents in achieving ambulation and range-of-motion goals.
  • Administer treatments as ordered.
  • Operate equipment safely and perform all procedures with proper technique.
  • Use correct body mechanics in all tasks.
  • Clean and restock supplies and equipment as directed.
  • Answer and direct phone calls professionally following hospital protocols.
  • Accept and apply constructive feedback to improve performance.
  • Provide non-direct patient care and support services under the supervision of licensed staff.
  • Maintain all required New York State CNA credentials.
  • Foster positive working relationships within the team and across departments.
  • Complete assigned duties on time and demonstrate flexibility in accepting tasks.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

  • At least one year of experience in long-term care preferred.
