Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Job Responsibilities
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care, ensuring the personal needs and comfort of residents are met. CNAs deliver daily nursing care to assigned residents in accordance with established procedures while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and respect.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitor and report changes in residents’ status and needs.
- Respond promptly to call lights and alarms, addressing and reporting resident needs.
- Measure and document vital signs, weight, and other essential health indicators.
- Efficiently prioritize and organize tasks within designated timeframes.
- Track and document residents’ fluid intake and output as required.
- Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, skincare, toileting, grooming, and dressing, while encouraging maximum independence.
- Support residents with meals and nutritional supplements as needed.
- Provide assistance with toileting and incontinence care as necessary.
- Reposition and transfer residents every 2-3 hours or as needed.
- Maintain CNA II certification, if applicable.
- Escort and assist residents to activities, dining areas, and other designated spaces.
- Promote a clean, comfortable, and homelike environment.
- Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges of residents.
- Support residents in achieving their mobility and exercise goals, including Passive and Active Range of Motion (PROM/AROM) and ambulation assistance.
- Administer treatments as directed for assigned residents.
- Ensure safe operation of equipment and adhere to proper procedures.
- Utilize proper body mechanics in all tasks to prevent injury.
- Maintain adequate supplies and ensure proper equipment storage.
- Answer and direct phone calls promptly, following hospital etiquette guidelines.
- Accept and implement constructive feedback to enhance job performance.
- Provide essential non-direct patient care and support services under the guidance of licensed personnel.
- Maintain compliance with New York State CNA certification requirements.
- Foster effective teamwork within the department and across units to meet organizational goals.
- Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
- Complete assignments on time and demonstrate flexibility in accepting new tasks.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
- At least one year of experience in long-term care is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Must hold a valid New York State Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
