Role Description
This is a temporary, exempt, on-call position as a Special Bilingual Examiner (Filipino-English) responsible for evaluating the bilingual skills of Department of Public Health (DPH) employees. Work assignments typically range from two (2) hours to two (2) days, with the possibility of longer assignments. This role is limited to 1,040 work hours per year.
The City and County of San Francisco is committed to ensuring language access for Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals, allowing them to effectively utilize government services. Special Bilingual Examiners assess the bilingual proficiency of DPH employees in translation and interpretation.
Key Responsibilities
Under general direction, the Special Bilingual Examiner (Filipino-English) will:
- Conduct oral and/or written language proficiency tests at various testing sites, including 101 Grove, Laguna Honda Hospital (LHH), and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFGH).
- Evaluate candidates’ bilingual proficiency using established rating scales.
- Score exams, document results, and provide feedback to candidates and HR professionals.
- Report and document any unusual testing incidents.
- Assist in the development of exam materials, test questions, and rating guidelines.
