Assistant Controller

Greenwich, CT (Hybrid)

$175K – $200K

Join a dynamic financial services firm as an Assistant Controller, overseeing the finance and accounting functions for two publicly traded entities — a credit-focused residential mortgage REIT and a CLO closed-end fund. This role reports to the Controller and offers a collaborative environment with exposure to senior executives, portfolio management, and regulatory reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain financial reporting models and analytics, developing key reports for management and tax compliance.
  • Assist in preparing management reports for fully consolidated subsidiaries and significant equity stakes.
  • Reconcile administrator data with internal portfolio management systems to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate across departments including portfolio management, risk, trade settlement, tax, and system development.
  • Support quarterly and annual regulatory reporting, including 10-Q/K filings, earnings releases, board packages, and market data reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required); CPA preferred.
  • 5-10 years of public accounting or fund accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of complex legal structures and accounting consolidation issues is a plus.
  • Knowledge of REITs, loan originations, whole loans, structured products, and derivatives is highly desirable.
  • Advanced Excel skills (familiarity with SQL or programming a plus).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
