About the job
We have a company seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller with a background in the construction industry and Work-in-Progress (WIP) accounting. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the financial operations of the company, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in all accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and reports in compliance with GAAP.
- Manage WIP schedules, ensuring accurate cost tracking and reporting for all ongoing projects.
- Collaborate with project managers to analyze job costing, budget variances, and profitability metrics.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including forecasts and budgets.
- Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and insights.
- Monitor cash flow and manage banking relationships to optimize financial performance.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Provide leadership and guidance to accounting staff, fostering a culture of growth and accountability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of WIP accounting and job costing.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks or Sage 300).
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work with large data sets.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams
