About our client:
This is a full-time permanent position with a forestry company located in Squamish. Our first-choice candidate will have experience in the forestry industry. We will consider individuals without forestry industry experience for the Squamish office so the person can work closely with the finance and accounting and finance leadership team.
The Accountant will be responsible for overseeing full-cycle accounting, specializing in the forestry sector. This includes ensuring compliance with financial regulations, supporting month-end and year-end processes, and preparing consolidated financial reports and statements. A strong understanding of IFRS, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various teams are essential for this role.
Additionally, the Accountant will play a key role in tracking inventory, managing costs, and ensuring accurate financial reporting for forestry operations. Prior experience in forestry accounting, including inventory management and cost-tracking, is a valuable asset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting of forestry, including accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciliations, and reporting, ensuring compliance with IFRS.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements and reports.
- Analyze financial data to provide insights that support business decisions.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Advise on technical accounting matters such as IFRS 16.
- Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and other financial records.
- Conduct audits and reconciliations within the ERP system to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address accounting issues and ensure timely financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax regulations.
- Prepare monthly reports, including GST, WCB, and government remittances.
- Prepare and file tax returns and other statutory reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA designation or current enrollment in the CPA program (required).
- Minimum 4 years of full-cycle accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of IFRS and Canadian accounting principles.
- Forestry experience required for West Van Office. Will consider individuals from manufacturing or other natural resources for Squamish office.
- Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close processes.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
- Ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- High level of integrity and ability to manage confidential information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite).
- Experience with First Nations is an asset.
