Functioning within the Health System’s mission, values, objectives, policies and procedures, the Inventory Control Specialist maintains accuracy of the OR inventories by practicing and ensuring others follow sound principles of inventory management maintaining minimal on-hand inventory but ensuring availability of items needed for patient care. The Inventory Control Specialist researches, analyzes and reports on inventory usage, trends and statistics; reviews error reports and discrepancies and processes required corrections; works with the OR staff to identify issues with items not properly decrementing from inventory through the SUR interface; processes inventory replenishment or emergency orders to ensure products needed for patient care are on-hand for scheduled procedures; maintains tracking of items that are shipped, or loaned out of the facility and when they are returned; maintains the storage areas ensuring items are stored appropriately following the principles of the 5S; maintains and updates the Meditech Material Management item records; maintains a formal cycle counting program, and conducts annual physical inventories. The Inventory Control Specialist sets the example and is an advocate of process improvement activities.
Education: Must be a graduate of a surgical technology program, LPN program, received formal military training as a surgical technician, or have a minimum of 3 years of related hospital experience as a surgical technician.
Licensure/Certification: Certified Surgical Technician required or a valid unrestricted LPN license for the State of Ohio or verification of academic training in a military setting. A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a surgical technician will be considered in lieu of required certification.
Experience: 3 to 5 years inventory og experience with MMIS and experience in a clinical environment are strongly preferred.
Skills: Computer experience required with focus on Microsoft Office and Material Management software systems. Strong numeric, verbal and organizational skills are required.
